Reaching Higher Levels of Community Ownership for the Protection of Children in Their Communities
This project strengthens community-led child protection systems in Helambu to prevent unnecessary child separation and ensure that children grow up in safe and caring family environments, in line with the 2019 UN Resolution on children without or at risk of losing parental care. In many rural communities, poverty, limited social services, and weak protection mechanisms increase the vulnerability of children and families. The project works to address these root causes by building the capacity of parents, schools, child clubs, Ward-level Child Rights Committees, and disability groups to safeguard children’s rights and wellbeing.
Through inclusive dialogue and community mobilization, traditionally marginalized groups are empowered to advocate for equal access to services and fair treatment. The project also promotes strong local leadership and community ownership in school governance and child protection initiatives. Learning and evidence from Helambu will be shared at local, national, and international platforms to contribute to wider efforts to reduce child separation and strengthen family-based care systems.
