Hard But Not as You Think
Success
is all about facing fears and difficulties. It can be harder than you think,
but surely you won’t regret it. Parijat Youth Club is a well-established and
growing group of Chaurideurali Rural Municipality-7, Kavre. It is currently
working in awareness raising campaigns, social action and advocacy in environmental
and climate justice, collaborating with Children Women in Social Service and
Human Rights (CWISH). In a short time, duration of around a year, we have already
reached out to more than 500 people in our communities.
Climate
Literacy training organized by Children Women in Social Service and Human
Rights (CWISH) with the support of tdh Germany, Nepal and BMZ for 5 days is a
great opportunity and platform for the youths like us from rural areas of
Kavre. We four youths got the opportunity to participate in the training. Before
that climate literacy training, we participated in other trainings such as on
climate change, waste management, eco-tourism and organic farming. Training
enhanced the knowledge and understanding among the youths on environmental and
climate concepts. We found the training organized by CWISH was knowledgeable
and encouraging. Similarly, climate literacy training was found to be very worthwhile.
We learned climate science in a simple way and more practically rather than theoretically
and hard science. We learned deeply about climate change and how it is
affecting the environment. We also learned about adaptation and mitigation
measures and their implementation at the local level. We got some ideas about
advocating climate change issues in the local area, too. Although we were from
very different faculties like engineering, health, music and photography but
love and bond towards nature was so strong that we managed to learn a lot.
We youths from Kavre think
that "Environment is trapped
and we are just fighting for its freedom".
Yes, for that we have started a plantation program, an awareness raising
campaign on climate change, dustbin distribution in local schools for
management of bio-degradable waste, bamboo bin distribution in the community,
sharing knowledge on climate change to the youth, students and women’s group.
We have been trying, fighting and struggling to change the perception of people
and local government representatives regarding environment and climate issues.
